In Editorial,News,PlayStation 3,SG Review on February 23, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: Noby Noby Boy, opinion

I think I’ve been confronted with a confounding conundrum: this really isn’t a review, because there isn’t really a game to review here at all. Noby Noby Boy is less of a game and more of a toybox, something you can dip in and out of at any time and play with aimlessly before returning to Call of Duty 4. Rather than bring the whole thing down, this lack of direction is its strongest point, and makes it really fun to play.
For a true non-review, this is quite special, because I’ve prepared some screenshots and a poorly-voiced video alongside the article itself! Enjoy it all – for want of a better word – over the jump.

In Fiction Friday,PC,PlayStation 3,Xbox 360 on February 20, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: Burnout Paradise, EA, Electronic Arts, fake news

In early February, Criterion released a special edition of Burnout Paradise titled The Ultimate Box. Gracing PC, 360 and PS3, the Box included Burnout Paradise in its entirety; all previous patches, motorbikes, custom soundtracks, and the Party Pack pay-for downloadable content. And EA was fine with that. They didn’t mind giving away one piece of DLC they could’ve been earning money from.
They seem to mind giving away the rest of it though, as the next ‘edition’ of Burnout Paradise has been canned. Read all about it over the jump.

Earlier today the Legendary Cars pack for Burnout Paradise went live on the internets. It’s the second piece of pay-for DLC to hit Paradise City after the Party Pack, which suffered from the disease known as EA-DLC-itis, where things cost more than they should and suffer as a result.
Can this new pack escape the curse? Find out over the jump…

In Editorial,PlayStation 3 on February 19, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: opinion, What We're Playing

This is What We’re Playing. It’s a column that might be written by everybody here once in a while that, y’know, tells you all about what we’re playing. Not sure if you’re really that into knowing what we’re playing but if you are, then your needs are catered for. Brilliant!
At the start of the year I started an account with UK rental site LOVEFiLM and so have been immersing myself in as many quality games as they can post out at once. Which, at a limit of 2, isn’t a lot. It’s enough though, so onto what I’m playing after the jump.

In News on February 17, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: EA, EA Sports, Electronic Arts, toys

It’s all about the toys at the moment. The toys, and the eventual destruction of the traditional childhood, or something to that effect. First we had Tomy bringing out a Wii Ware version of Pop-Up Pirate! (and not telling anybody) and now EA are performing the inverse. Rather than bring out a game of a toy, they’re bringing out a toy of a game.
Or a series of games, to be more precise. More over the jump, but be warned: there’s EA ahead…

In News,Wii on February 17, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: Nintendo, Tomy, WiiWare

Y’know what I hate more than press releases that seriously overhype Wii games months in advance, because the publisher knows the game will be a sack of sh*t? (Remember MySims Party‘s press release bigging up how you can “shake your groovy thing with DJ Candy”, and shudder.) A press release that, with a gentle whimper, announces that a Wii game exists on the day that it’s released, because the publisher knows the game will be a sack of sh*t. That’s exactly what toy company Tomy has done with their new WiiWare release, Pop-Up Pirate!
The child in me is weeping and calling Nintendo a big smelly doo doo head, for ruining the childhoods of everyone, for generations for come. As for me, I’m ready to rant, click on over for more.

Noby Noby Boy. Say that to yourself. It sounds stupid, but then so does saying ‘Katamari Damacy‘, the other brainchild of game creator Keita Takahashi. To be honest, the guy himself is probably utterly bonkers. Relentlessly insane. Completely cuckoo.
But he’s a genius, as Noby Noby Boy will demonstrate this Thursday, exclusively on the PSN for €3.99 (and probably £3.50/$4.99). It’s time to hold your nose, take a deep breath and dive head-first into the curious world of Japanese gaming, after the jump.

In Fiction Friday,PlayStation 3,Xbox 360 on February 13, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: fake news, Grand Theft Auto 4

Hot on the heels of The Lost and Damned, the first of many planned pieces of downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV, comes The Found and Blessed. While it’s not been confirmed by Rockstar to even exist, I recently went out to Edinburgh (it’s about 42 miles from here, as the crow flies) to take a look at what Rockstar North have got planned for the next piece of 360-exclusive DLC.
Find out what’s going on with The Found and Blessed after the jump and remember, you read it here first…

In PlayStation 3,Wii,Xbox 360 on February 12, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: EA, Electronic Arts, Harmonix, Paul McCartney, Rock Band, The Beatles

You can tell I wasn't thinking when I made this image. We already knew the game existed, but I couldn't think of anything else that would fit in the speech bubble. I'm digressing here...
What is it with celebrities featuredin games being seriously loose-lipped when it comes to talking about said games? In 2006 Kristen Bell managed to spoil Assassin’s Creed in its entirety; now Paul McCartney is doing it too, having blabbed about the Beatles game that is Rock Band but won’t be called Rock Band.
Find out what he let slip after the jump!

In PlayStation 3,Wii,Xbox 360 on February 11, 2009 by jonfaec Tagged: EA, Electronic Arts, hip-hop, rap, Rock Band, Snoop Dogg

Rock Band‘s back catalog, as I understand it, has been good. We’ve had The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Boston, Judas Priest, the Smashing Pumpkins and a plethora of other artists making up the catalogue. It’s all been a mixture of classic rock, power-pop and some of the newer ‘indie’ stuff from bands like The Fratellis. And that’s been fine. They’re all rock songs.
Snoop Dogg isn’t though. Why is he turning up at the Rock Band party then? Hit the jump for more…
